Applying for a Community Chest grant

– Maximum Grant you can apply for is £1,500. Expectation for the applicant to contribute the shortfall if the total project costs exceed £1,500

Purpose of Grant:
The Community Chest panel will consider the following questions when reviewing community chest applications: Is the organisation looking to increase participation?
Is the organisation improving standards of existing activity? Does the application indicate how the project will become sustainable? Does the application evidence partnership work?

Who can apply:
Any group that holds an account (be it a Bank, Building Society or Credit Union account), in their organisation’s name. You’ll probably be one of the following:

  • Sports Club or Association
  • Youth Club
  • Community Group
  • Voluntary Organisation
  • Social Enterprise

Who cannot apply:

  • Primary / secondary schools arranging activities for their pupils
  • Individual members of the public
  • Local Authorities
  • Organisations whose proposed project has already started

What can be funded:

  • Projects that deliver increased participation and / or improve standards
  • Additional equipment to support growth in membership or increasing standards
  • Coach education and volunteer development
  • Initial facility hire and coach/instructor costs for up to a maximum of 20 sessions
  • A maximum contribution of £45 towards a First Aid Course
  • A maximum contribution of £40 towards a first aid kit
  • A maximum contribution of £150 towards marketing materials to support promotion of the project

What can NOT be funded:

  • Personal items of equipment or kit
  • Team kit unless in exceptional start up circumstances.
  • Catering and hospitality
  • Medals, certificates and trophies
  • Domestic and foreign tours
  • One-off events with no links to ongoing activities
  • Day-to-day running costs
  • Projects that have already started
  • Projects where the activity takes place outside of Wales
  • Insurance / League fees / affiliation / activities deemed part of the core business of the organisation
  • Projects that are considered to be part of an organisations normal day-to-day running costs
  • Physical activities such as gardening, DIY, environmental improvements, performance dance, or circus skills
  • Maintenance, repair or replacement of current equipment or facilities (however consideration will be given to replace equipment that no longer complies with current legislation)

Affiliation to a National Governing Body of Sport:
Sport Wales recommends that you organisation is affiliated to your National Governing Body of Sport. In the interests of safety, organisations that take part in certain sports must be affiliated to the recognised governing body. For a list of these sports please see the Sport Wales website

Grant Conditions / Restrictions:
Please make sure that you:

  • Have explained clearly in your application form what you are planning to do and why
  • Have ensured that the project start date is correct as we cannot fund any projects that have already started prior to the application deadlines below
  • Are affiliated to the correct National Governing Body of Sport if your sport is a high risk sport
  • If your project contains a fitness element i.e. yoga, pilates etc., are your instructors registered with REPs
  • If you have received support from a Sport Cardiff staff member, please state their name on the application.

Application Deadlines:
January 8th 2019

Applicants will receive notification by email of the outcome of their grant application within one month of the deadline.

Be A Super Club

Standard

Sport Cardiff Super Club status can be awarded to clubs based in the City, who can show they are ensuring high standards in community sport.

To apply for this status a club would need to evidence the following:

  • Suitably qualified coaches (as per NGB guidelines)
  • DBS checks in place for all lead coaches
  • Public Liability Insurance for players, volunteers, and coaches
  • Qualified first aider at all club activities
  • A Welfare or Child Protection Policy
  • A willingness to work with Sport Cardiff

Benefits include:

  • A certificate to display at your club
  • Use of the Super Club logo
  • Promotion of the club on Sport Cardiff social media
  • Discounts on selected workshops being run by Sport Cardiff
  • Advanced notice and/or priority booking on selected workshops
  • Entry into Super Club prize draws

Get on board with the Volvo Ocean Race in Cardiff this Spring!

The Volvo Ocean Race is an epic race around the world, visiting 12 cities and touching six continents and for the first time in its history the race will stop in Cardiff from 27 May to 10 June 2018. – The Volvo Ocean Race is an epic race around the world, visiting 12 cities and touching six continents. The fleet set off from Alicante, Spain on October 2017 and sailors will leave Newport, Rhode Island, U.S., on May 20 for the race”s transatlantic leg and will cover approximately 2,900 nautical miles until they reach Cardiff. The transatlantic leg is traditionally one of the nine-month event”s biggest highlights and toughest tests for sailors in often challenging conditions. Antonio Bolaños López, acting CEO, Volvo Ocean Race, said: “The transatlantic race between Newport and Cardiff promises to be one of the real highlights of the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18.

The Volvo Ocean Race festival site, called the Race Village, will be located on the scenic Cardiff Bay Barrage. The two week free event will host a variety of entertainment and Volvo Ocean Race-themed attractions.

We are looking for hundreds of volunteers who are willing to give their time, skills, and energy to support this prestigious event. Most role do not need any sailing expertise so as long as you have some enthusiasm and a willing attitude we would love to hear from you!

4Rackets Camp – On Wednesday 4th April 2018, Squash Wales, Tennis Wales, Badminton Wales and Table Tennis Wales are working in collaboration to run an exciting 4Rackets camp for 7 to 11 year olds. A new opportunity has been added to Sports Hub Cardiff by Kidney Wales – Cardiff 10K, starts 02 September 2018

Held on Sunday 2nd September, the Cardiff 10K is the longest running road race in Wales, cementing itself as an important fixture in the racing calendar for many people. This year’s race will be the biggest yet, with 10,000 people running a brand new route throughout Cardiff City Center.

We’re looking for volunteers who are willing to assist the race organisers wherever possible. No prior experience is required, we’re simply looking for enthusiastic individuals to help with marshaling among other tasks.

There is always a positive buzz in the air on race day, whether your running, spectating or volunteering and it’s a great experience to be a part of that.

Help is needed for a new tennis session for adults who are blind or partially sighted.
The sessions are supported by Cardiff Institute for the Blind and Tennis Wales and additional help is urgently needed to support the coaches delivering the sessions.

Tasks will include guiding participants within the venue, picking up tennis balls, and assisting with basic tennis rallies

Volunteers will need to have an enhanced DBS check or be willing to complete one with us.
